Murdered: Raven Buckley
*Editor’s Note: This story happened in Atlanta. This young lady seemed to have an extremely bright future and sadly, that opportunity was dismissed by a coward. May Ms. Buckley rest in peace.

A woman killed in Midtown Atlanta Friday in what police say is an apparent murder-suicide was a Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker secretary, the firm’s Atlanta managing partner, Philip J. Marzetti, confirmed Friday evening. Police said a man shot and killed the woman and then turned the gun on himself outside the Bank of America Plaza, Atlanta’s tallest building.
Marzetti said that the secretary, Raven Buckley, had been with the firm for about a year. The shooter was not a firm employee, he said, but the employee of a local temporary agency who had been working for the last three months in the firm’s records center.
The incident happened at a picnic table in the courtyard outside the skyscraper around 3:30 p.m. Paul Hastings’ Atlanta offices are in that building.
The man and woman got into a verbal argument that soon turned physical, said Atlanta Police Officer Ron Campbell. The man then held the woman down and shot her before shooting himself, Campbell said.
Police arrived at the scene to find two bodies. Campbell didn’t know if the two had a personal relationship.
The west entrance to the 1,023-foot-tall building was draped in yellow tape Friday afternoon. Campbell said witnesses described a “pretty panicked scene” in the shooting’s aftermath, as workers alarmed by the gunfire scrambled to call authorities.
“We’re shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy,” Marzetti said in a phone message, “And it’s got everyone here quite upset, as you might imagine. In any event, our principal concerns right now are with our employee’s family, friends and her co-workers, make sure that they’re doing OK.
“The last three hours have been some of the worst of my life,” he added later.

Raven made coming to work a blessing everyday. Her zest for life and her personality made her the best friend anyone could ask for. I hope she is smiling down now at her works she accomplished in such a short time. I only wish that God uses her as a teacher because she wanted to do that more than anything. I will miss you Raven probably for the rest of the days of my life. Go with God. God bless the family during this time and keep a hedge of protection around them always.

What about My family? The Buckley’s are not the only one who has lost someone they loved

I’ve prayed for both families. But they make it seem as thought Raven was such an Angel. She aborted Mr. Acevedo’s child and told him. If she wasn’t planning to keep the baby, she should kept it to herself.

To Jane Doe…No matter if she was pregnant or not, it did NOT give the accused the right to turn a gun to her and kill her. Having an abortion doesn’t determine whether or not you’re an angel on any playing field. Even if you’re 100% against abortion, it does NOT give you the right to take the law into your own hands and kill someone b/c you disagree with their decision. While I do feel horribly for the family of Mr. Acevedo, at the end of the day, had he NOT turned the gun on himself, he would be sitting behind bars for murder. The court system would not grant him a ‘pardon’ b/c the girl that he’s accused of shooting made a decision that he was against. Thank you for your comment.

As former neighbors to the Buckley family I had the Privilege of seeing Raven and her sisters grow year by year. She had such a bright future ahead. The world is a darker place without you Raven. Our thoughts and prayers are with the remaining family members.

I was very fortunate to have known someone so full of good, and wish I could’ve seen her just 1 last time. She is terribly missed and her memory will live in the hearts of the ones that were fortunate enough to have known her.

whatever PERSONAL decison Raven and Jermaine made was that-personal. Granted work relationships present a new set of issues, it still gives him no right to bring that violence to work. the appropriate thing to do would be to handle it as an adult and away from work. sadly, we all have made mistakes and chosen someone that has a dark side, and sadly Raven died at the hands of one man’s inability to cope without a weapon.
i’m still waiting to hear if this man purchased/licensed/possessed his weapon legally, and if he didn’t, who bought it legally and gave it to him. once that issue has surfaced we as a community would be able to begin to address one of the two issues that caused Raven’s death - gun control (or lack thereof)- and the other domestic violence.
to the muderer’s family member - jane doe, and the other comment submitted by cuzo i say this…this board is for the memory of a woman left dead to foolishness and to raise awareness to violence. this is not a board for debate or questioning Raven’s character/decisions, or whether she was an ‘angel’. perhaps your comments should be taken to the local news networks where we didn’t see your sibling (Jermaine’s) side of the story.
had this been a board for grieving murderers family’s comments, your words would have merit. i didn’t say you have no right to grieve, but let’s make sure we place the blame where it’s appropriate. one thing that plagues our community is our inability to own a wrong.

My family’s prayers go out to the Buckley family. My sister Allison and I babysat Raven and her sisters growing up in the same neighborhood. Although we’ve lost touch over the years, we will greatly miss Raven and pray for peace and healing for her family.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the death of such a beautiful person. I’ve been friends with the Buckley family for many years and although we lost touch through the way, the pain is still as though we spoke every day. May God Bless the Buckley Family and may Raven rest in peace.
